4) You've been involved in complementary health care since 1983 and have done extensive research work including your study of the effects of essential oils on radiation induced mucositis. Can you share some insights with us?

My research study for my Doctorate involved the use of Manuka and Kanuka oils on radiation induced mucositis. This was considered ground breaking in NZ as the first clinical doctorate exploring the use of essential oils in a clinical hospital setting. To my knowledge nothing else has been like this since other smaller case studies I have been involved in which have been published include using essential oils for cyclical mastalgia, for motor neuron disease, the experiences of allergic reactions to essential oils during menstruation and stress. I also had the opportunity to work collaboratively with professor Myung-Haeng Hur from Eulji University in Daejeon South Korea on some essential oil research she was completing. This included study on haliostasis.

To me plant aromatics is more than just a pretty (or in some cases not so pretty) smell. We really are blessed to have nature provide us with the tools to help us feel better, help us heal ourselves and help us function better. For many things the essential oils are the first thing I turn to for minor ailments or to help support treatments for more serious things. It is truly a lifelong passion and there is always something new to learn. I used to tell my students at the end of their course: now your journey of learning is just beginning!

5) Do you have any plans to visit Hong Kong again soon? We would love to have you back for another great workshop!

I am expecting to be in Hong Kong again soon for business in November and will keep in touch with APA for dates for a workshop so I can share a little bit of NZ with you in Hong Kong!
